If Disney, Indiana episode 96 wasn’t enough John Carter for you, check out episode number 9 of the Dad and His Weird Friends podcast. Tracey joins host Casey to dive into the sci-fi adventure classics “A Princess of Mars” and “Gods of Mars”. These books are the basis for the Disney film John Carter.
In today’s episode, Tracey and Scott continue their year-long examination of the cartoon shorts of the Walt Disney Company with a look at Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is March’s Salute to Shorts segment. They’ll discuss the history of the character, review some of the shorts, look how Disney lost and then regained this classic character.
Tracey then stops by Belle’s Books to share her thoughts on the book Walt Before Mickey: Disney’s Early Years, 1919-1928 by Timothy S Susanin. It’s a book that we’ve been using as a reference for the Salute to Shorts segments in 2012.
Then our hosts will take a look at the troubled history of John Carter, Disney’s newest live action film in theaters now. They will cover the long and strange development history of this project, Disney’s current involvement and share their thoughts on this film.
All that, plus a listen to WWED and other surprises.
In this episode, Tracey and Scott discuss one of their dining must-do’s at Walt Disney World: The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. They describe the restaurant, share the audio from the film loop and do a bit of armchair imagineering to suggest improvements. Our co-hosts also share their thoughts on the Disney In Concert: Magical Music from the Movies event they attended last month in Cincinnati. They wrap up the show with a call over to the Main Street Cinema and a report from a listener who attended the 24 hr One More Disney Day event in Disneyland.
